About University of Limerick
The University of Limerick (UL) operates Ireland's only exclusively graduate-entry medical school (established 2007), offering a four-year accelerated MB BCh BAO programme designed for graduates of any discipline who wish to pursue medicine. This innovative programme was the first of its kind in Ireland and attracts career-changers, biomedical science graduates, and mature students. Clinical training takes place at University Hospital Limerick (a Model 4 hospital serving the Mid-West region), Croom Orthopaedic Hospital, and a network of GP practices providing primary care experience.
UL's medical curriculum is built on the Problem-Based Learning philosophy with significant emphasis on clinical skills from year one and a longitudinal integrated clerkship model. The university campus on the River Shannon is one of Ireland's most beautiful, with excellent sports facilities (UL has Ireland's best university sports programme) and modern student accommodation. Research focuses include clinical education innovation, health informatics, and emergency medicine.
For UK students with a completed undergraduate degree, UL offers a focused, efficient pathway to a GMC-recognised medical degree in a modern, well-resourced environment.
