About University of Southampton

The University of Southampton Faculty of Medicine offers a distinctive five-year BM programme (Bachelor of Medicine) with one of the UK's most comprehensive integrated curricula. Clinical rotations take place at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) — a major teaching hospital with 1,100 beds and one of England's leading centres for cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, and paediatric intensive care. UHS also houses the Southampton NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, one of 20 in England.

Research strengths include respiratory medicine (the Southampton Respiratory Biomedical Research Centre leads globally in asthma and COPD), cancer immunology, nutrition (the Institute of Developmental Sciences), and developmental origins of health and disease. The university's Academic Unit of Primary Care and Population Sciences has produced influential UK health policy research. Southampton is a modern city with maritime heritage, close to the New Forest and south coast beaches.

For UK students, Southampton offers innovative medical education with particular respiratory and developmental medicine strengths in a well-connected south coast city.
