About University of Plymouth

The University of Plymouth Peninsula Medical School (formerly Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry) offers a five-year BMBS programme in England's far southwest. Clinical rotations take place at Derriford Hospital (Plymouth's major acute hospital, 900 beds), the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, Royal Cornwall Hospital (Truro), and community settings across Devon and Cornwall. The programme is distinctive for its Case-Based Learning approach and integrated curriculum, which was recognised as highly innovative when launched.

Research strengths include marine biology and health (the Plymouth Marine Laboratory studies ocean-health connections), brain tumours, dental research, and community health. Plymouth is a waterfront city with naval heritage, access to Dartmoor National Park, south Devon beaches, and an outdoors lifestyle. For UK students, Plymouth offers medical education in a stunning natural environment with strong community medicine focus, Case-Based Learning, and the advantages of training across two counties with diverse health needs.
