About Medical University of Lodz
The Medical University of Łódź (Uniwersytet Medyczny w Łodzi) was formed in 2002 through the merger of the Medical Academy of Łódź and the Military Medical Academy, creating Poland's largest medical university by student number. The six-year English Division trains students across an extensive hospital network including the Norbert Barlicki University Clinical Hospital, the Military Medical Institute, and the Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital-Research Institute. The university has distinctive strengths in military medicine, paediatrics, and cardiovascular surgery.
Łódź is Poland's third-largest city and has undergone a dramatic renaissance — once an industrial powerhouse, it now features converted factory lofts, Europe's longest pedestrian street (Piotrkowska), the Łódź Film School (producing many Oscar-winning directors), and a rapidly growing IT sector. Living costs are among the lowest of any major Polish city. For UK students, the Medical University of Łódź offers English-taught medical education at approximately £10,500/year in a creatively regenerating city with strong clinical volumes, EU-recognised qualifications, and an increasingly vibrant cultural scene.
